In the fall of 2019 SilvoCulture partnered with Howard EcoWorks to secure a grant to install rainwater capturing swales, nut trees, fruit trees, and pollinator plant guilds at residential properties throughout Howard County.

This sample design and illustrations show some of the possibilities for designing rainwater capture, nut trees, fruit trees, and diverse and beneficial plant communities onto residential sites. In addition to the countless benefits to wildlife and rainwater systems, a landowner could enjoy nuts and fruits for themselves, share with neighbors, or even plant a small chestnut orchard that provides enough nuts to sell to a local nut co-op for a profit.

Nuts and Fruits with Howard EcoWorks

The team started visiting sites and developing designs in spring of 2020 and installations are now underway by Howard EcoWorks who is also incorporating environmental job training into the project!

Check out some of the designs and photos of installations below.
